Centre culturel de Chine is the first cultural center established by the Chinese government in a Western country. It carries the mission of disseminating Chinese culture to French society and the public, promoting the exchange and mutual learning of Chinese and French civilizations, and is known as the "Chinese Cultural Living Room" in Paris. In April 2001, China and France jointly signed the "Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of Mutual Cultural Centers," and in November 2002, the two sides officially signed the "Agreement on the Establishment of Cultural Centers and Their Status." On November 29, 2002, former Vice Premier of the State Council Li Lanqing and then Minister of Overseas Affairs of France, Bridget Girardin, jointly unveiled the plaque for the China Cultural Center in Paris. The establishment of the China Cultural Center in Paris has provided a window and platform for the French public to continuously gain an in-depth understanding of Chinese culture, the Chinese people, China, to listen to Chinese stories, and to carry out regular exchanges. It has also built a bridge of friendship for the continuous enhancement of Sino-French cultural and artistic exchanges, tourism promotion, and the deepening of bilateral relations.
